WhatsApp replaces green verification badge with a blue one
WhatsApp is looking forward to bring another change to the interface. Nothing major, but the go-to-messenger application is updating its verification system, replacing the existing green badge with a blue checkmark for confirmed businesses and channels. This move aligns with Meta’s broader efforts to create a consistent visual identity for verified accounts across its platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, ultimately enhancing trust and authenticity for users. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to offer iOS users the same opportunity to experiment with the new checkmark, as it already does for the Android version.
According to the WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has switched to a blue checkmark to verify businesses and channels to align with Meta’s broader visual identity. This update replaces the old green badge, creating a cohesive look across platforms and reinforcing trust with users. The blue checkmark ensures authenticity, safeguarding users from potential impersonation and facilitating secure engagements with verified businesses and channels.
By adopting a consistent visual identity across Meta platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, users can seamlessly recognise verified accounts, fostering trust and familiarity. This unified approach strengthens brand recognition, making it easier for users to identify authentic accounts and engage with confidence. The feature is available to some users who install the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app for now, and it’s rolling out to more people over the coming weeks.
This step can also be seen as a response to Meta Verified, a feature announced by Mark Zuckerberg two months ago and available to some businesses in certain markets.
Meta AI on WhatsApp
Meta announced Meta AI for all of its platforms, including WhatsApp. The company claims that its Meta AI can help users with everyday tasks, learning, and creative work. Initially launched at last year’s Meta Connect and powered by the latest Llama 3 technology, Meta AI has been expanding globally since April and is now accessible to users in India.
On WhatsApp, Meta AI can be summoned in group chats to assist with planning and suggestions. Whether you need restaurant recommendations for a night out or itinerary ideas for a road trip, the company says users can ask Meta AI within their WhatsApp conversation. To directly access Meta AI, one can look for a blue-purple circle icon at the top of the app once the update is available to your device.
